Aurora Basecamp - Now Open

A new Northern Lights experience has opened right outside of Reykjavik and it’s on the way from the airport. 20 mins drive from Reykjavik, Aurora Basecamp is a brand new all-purpose experience where you can, if you’re lucky, see the Northern Lights from its domes. Learn about the magical Aurora in their exhibition, and get tips from local experts on how and where to spot her. This is the ideal way to start your winter trip to Iceland and get clued up before you start your Northern Lights hunt.

There are 3 domes; the first is the welcome space where you can enjoy a hot chocolate whilst your eyes adjust to the darkness. The second is the exhibition where you learn about Aurora and get to see footage and images of the lights. There are also tubes of light dancing around the dome and these replicate the chemicals in the aurora. The last dome is used for private functions.

Sit on Icelandic sheepskin rugs and look out over the starry sky. The center is dark and designed to help your eyes adjust to fully take in this magical experience. Outside is a park where you can walk around and (hopefully) enjoy the Aurora.

Gran Roza enjoyed her hot chocolate as she read the information booklet and Mia loved the trip, and all the lights dancing around her. Though we didn’t see the Northern Lights on the night we went, it was still a fun trip.
