My Realistic 2021 New Year Resolutions

Setting your New Years Resolutions like ‘normal’, I urge you to pause. This is not yet the new normal. Instead, aim to keep on surviving because you’re doing great, and that is good enough.

2021 might not be your year, again, and that might be down to COVID or it might be the fact that each year you set resolutions and don’t stick to them. I’m not here to put you off, absolutely not, I want to help you face 2021 with a realistic view and a positive outcome.

Let’s take a look at it:

  1. Mental health and stress in the aftermath

  2. Children, how can we help minimize the effects?

  3. Social distancing and lockdowns will continue well into 2021, be prepared

  4. Working online will continue, it might be the new normal for many

  5. Income worries and financial pressure might grow

  6. Budgeting, how do you spend, how do you save?

  7. Make extra money - can you monetize a hobby, make passive income?

  8. Invest in yourself - retrain, learn a trade, online education

  9. Employments - fewer jobs, overqualified, too old/too young, pay cut to stay employed

  10. Relationships, it’s good to talk, learn how to cope in your relationship or seek help, declutter negative ones

  11. How do you spend your time? Declutter, Mindfulness, Exercise. Church, read, call friends, join an online quiz, get offline, take in your surroundings

  12. Don’t look at 2021 by itself, make a 5year plan instead

The vaccine is coming BUT it might be a good few months yet so…

  • Prepare yourself for a new year with realistic hopes and goals. Look back over the year and celebrate the wins, however small. List out what you’re grateful for, what you overcame, what you learned, etc.

  • Prepare yourself for more odd and disruptive working and investing in yourself, your future, and your opinions.

  • Prepare yourself for more isolation but be aware of what makes you not feel quite so isolated, and do more of that.
