The 5 Best Games of January 2020

Though the holidays are over, a new year of gaming is upon us. See what the beginning of the year has in store with the 5 best games of January. Oh, and we won’t make you click through five pages to look at the entire list.

The 5 Best Games of January 2020

Arc of Alchemist

Compile Heart and Idea Factory are taking tactical RPG fans in the West to a desert filled with machine with the release of Arc of Alchemist. Players will fill the shoes of tactician Quinn Bravesford as she uses “Actions” to engage with enemies and utilizing up to three members in-game. We’re especially looking forward to making the most of Quinn’s Lunagear in the desert, which factors into a number of different puzzles.

Arc of Alchemist will come out for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch on January 30, 2020.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore

Originally released for the Wii U in 2015, Atlus and Intelligent Systems are giving the title a second wind with the Nintendo Switch release of Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore. Combining the worlds of Fire Emblem and Atlus’ titles, this title tells of an interdimensional evil that has invaded modern-day Tokyo. However, the player can wage war on these evil spirits through turn-based battles that take cues from both the Fire Emblem and the Shin Megami Tensei series. We’re especially looking into seeing all of the Easter eggs the developers have put in for fans of each series.
Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore will come out for the Nintendo Switch on January 17.

Psikyo Shooting Stars Alpha

Fans of the shoot-em-up genre are in for a real treat when NIS America’s Psikyo Shooting Stars Alpha hits the Nintendo Switch this month. Included in this collection is Strikers 1945, Strikers 1945 II, Strikers 1945 III, Sol Divide, Dragon Blaze, and Zero Gunner 2. These classics have been rendered in high definition, and can be experienced in either a horizontal mode or a vertical “TATE” mode. We’re especially looking forward to experiencing these titles with a friend in its local multiplayer modes.

Psikyo Shooting Stars Alpha will come out for the Nintendo Switch on January 21.

Kingdom Hearts III: Re:Mind

After its release in 2019, the Re:Mind DLC for Square-Enix’s Kingdom Hearts III will finally launch this month. Included in this release are new Keyblades with Formchanges, new story cutscenes, a number of new bosses, and the ability to switch characters. We’re especially looking forward to seeing where this expansion will take the story.

The Kingdom Hearts III Re Mind DLC will launch for the PlayStation 4 on January 23.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot

Developed by CyberConnect2 and published by Bandai Namco, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot takes Akira Toriyama’s famous anime series and turns it into an action RPG. Players will be able to relive the story of series protagonist Goku as he fishes, flies, eats, and trains. Never-before-seen story segments have been included, along with the new original character Bonyu. We’re especially looking forward to playing through the iconic battles of the series.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will come out for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on January 17.

What we at Gamers Heroes are looking forward to the most:

We at Gamers Heroes are looking forward to Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot the most. The idea of playing through the Dragon Ball Z anime in an action RPG format is something that fans the world over have been dying to experience, and the amount of polish going into this one will make it worthy of any Saiyan warrior.

Casey Scheld

Casey Scheld has more than 15 years of experience in the gaming industry as a community manager, social media director, event specialist, and (of course) gaming editor. He has previously worked with gaming start-ups like Raptr, publishers like Konami, and roller derby girls at PAX West (check out Jam City Rollergirls)! Gamers Heroes is a passion project for him, giving him a chance to tap into the underground side of gaming. He is all too eager to give these lesser-known heroes of the indie space the attention they so rightly deserve, seeking out the next gem and sharing it with the world. Previously making appearances at events like CES, GDC, and (the late) E3, he is all too happy to seek out the next big thing. For those that want to talk shop, send over a tip, or get an easy win in a fighting game of their choosing, be sure to check out his social media channels below.
