WayForward’s Yars Rising to Feature “Electronic Rock Opera” Soundtrack

Revealed earlier today during the Indie World 2024 partner showcase, WayForward and Atari are creating a modern chapter in the storyline of Yars’ Revenge with Yars Rising, complete with a unique soundtrack.

In Yars Rising, players take control of the 23-year-old hacker-for-hire Emi Kimura. Her latest role has her taking on a gig from a mysterious patron to infiltrate the shadowy Qotech corporation. What follows is a MetroidVania-style title that will feature a number of stealth and hacking elements as players set out to uncover this corporation’s secret.

Yars Rising – Official Announcement Trailer

Speaking with WayForward Game Director James Montagna at GDC 2024 this past March, he said that special attention has been brought to the soundtrack of Yars Rising. He said that this title serves as an international collaboration with Japan, featuring vocal tracks from a wide variety of artists. In particular, he said that it is best described as an “electronic rock opera.”

Wade Rosen, Chairman and CEO of Atari, said the following:

“Wayforward’s proven story-telling and world-building powers made them a perfect choice for reimagining one of Atari’s most enduring game franchises. I am confident that fans are going to enjoy this new, dynamic chapter in the Yars storyline: Yars Rising.”

The title will make its way to PC and consoles late 2024.
