The Biggest Announcements from The Game Awards 2021

Honoring the best video games of 2021, The Game Awards featured a wealth of game announcements and reveals. For those that missed the festivities, we’ve gathered all of the biggest announcements from the event in one place – no multi-page clickthrough required.

Dune: Spice Wars

A real-time strategy game with 4X elements, Shiro Games and Funcom’s Dune: Spice Wars has players battling for control and dominance for power over Dune and the spice. The title will be released in 2022.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

Rocksteady Studios’ Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League supports up to four team members in online co-op as they take control of Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Captain Boomerang and King Shark.

Star Trek: Resurgence

Set after the events of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Resurgence is a choice-based adventure game by Dramatic Labs (made up of former Telltale Games developers). The title will be released in Spring 2022.

A Plague Tale: Requiem

Asobo Studio and Focus Entertainment’s A Plague Tale: Requiem will follow the story of Amicia and her brother Hugo as they survive within a brutal, uncaring world. The game will come out for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in 2022, along with a cloud version on the Nintendo Switch.

Rumbleverse

A 40-player “brawler royale,” Iron Galaxy and Epic Games Publishing’s Rumbleverse will transport players to Grapital City. Early access for the title will begin February 8.

Forspoken

The debut title from Luminous Productions, Forspoken will have players contending with a devastating miasma known as the “Break.” After the protagonist Frey Holland (Ella Balinsk) survives this phenomenon, she must use parkour to traverse the land of Athia.

Forspoken will come out for the PlayStation 5 and PC on May 24, 2022.

Sonic Frontiers

SEGA Sonic Team Japan’s next project is the open world Sonic Frontiers. Producer Sachiko Kawamura (Sonic Adventure’s Chao Garden) and Director Morio Kishimoto (Sonic Colors) have lent their talents to this title, which will be released Holiday 2022.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2

Proof positive that you can’t keep a good hedgehog down, James Marsden, Ben Schwartz, and Jim Carrey will return to the big screen once more with Paramount Pictures’ Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on March 31, 2022.

Horizon Forbidden West

The latest trailer for Guerrilla Games and PlayStation Studios’ Horizon Forbidden West made its appearance at The Game Awards. The game will come out for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on February 18, 2022.

Alan Wake 2

Remedy Entertainment will continue the story of Alan Wake with the release of Alan Wake 2 in 2023.

Steelrising

Daedalic Entertainment and NACON Steelrising is a souls-like that will depict an alternative version of history in 1789, one where King Louis XVI built an army of robots.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum

A story-driven action-adventure, Daedalic Entertainment and NACON’s The Lord of the Rings: Gollum features a split-personality between Sméagol and Gollum The game will come out in 2022.

Metal: Hellsinger

A rhythm-based FPS from Funcom, Metal: Hellsinger will feature screamer-singers like Alissa (White-Gluz) from Arch Enemy and Randy (Blythe) from Lamb of God. The game will come out for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in 2022.

Wonder Woman

WB Games and Monolith Productions (Middle-earth: Shadow of War) are teaming up to create a new Wonder Woman game.

Star Wars Eclipse

Quantic Dream (Detroit: Become Human) and Lucasfilm Games are teaming up for the release of Star Wars Eclipse. Thisi High Republic era action-adventure game is currently in early development.

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II

The next entry in the Hellblade franchise, Ninja Theory’s Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II was on full display at The Game Awards.

Evil West

Focus Entertainment and Flying Wild Hog’s Evil West promises to deliver a dark fantasy world chock full of fast-paced, visceral third-person combat. The game will come out for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in 2022.

PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS Going Free-to-Play

KRAFTON announced that PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS will convert to a free-to-play model beginning January 12, 2021.

Warhammer: Vermintide 2 New Career

A new career for Victor Saltzpyre, the Warrior Priest is the fourth career released for Fatshark’s Warhammer: Vermintide 2. It is now available for Xbox and Steam, and will come out for PlayStation consoles in January 2022.

Destiny 2: The Witch Queen

An upcoming expansion for Destiny 2, The Witch Queen will put the focus on a fireteam of Guardians and their troubling encounter with Savathûn and the Light-wielding forces of her Lucent Brood. Players will be able to experience it for themselves when it launches on February 22, 2022.

FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE for PC

Previously released on the PlayStation 5, the world of Square Enix’s FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE will come out for the PC via Epic Games Store on December 16, 2021.

Persona 4 Arena Ultimax

Previously released in arcades, the PlayStation 3, and the Xbox 360, the world of Arc System Works and Atlus West’s Persona 4 Arena Ultimax will make its way to the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam on March 17, 2022.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Hot on the heels of Friday the 13th: The Game, the development team at Gun Interactive is working with Sumo Nottingham to create the asymmetrical multiplayer title The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Homeworld 3

A 3D RTS in a cosmic environment, new footage of Blackbird Interactive and Gearbox Publishing’s Homeworld 3 was revealed. The game will come out in Q4 2022 on Steam and the Epic Games Store.

The King of Fighters XV

The latest fighter announced for SNK’s The King of Fighters XV is Krohnen. The full release will come out on February 17, 2022.

Dying Light 2

Created by Platige Image, a new CGI cinematic trailer for Techland Games’ Dying Light 2 Stay Human made its debut at The Game Awards. Those that pre-order can get the new exclusive “Reach for the sky” pack, which was inspired by Rosario Dawson.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands

Players will be able to embark on an epic adventure full of whimsy, wonder, and high-powered weaponry when Gearbox Software and 2K Games’ Tiny Tina Wonderlands comes out on March 25, 2022.

Among Us VR

Schell Games’ Among Us VR is a first person, 3D experience with support for 4-10 players. The title will be released for PlayStation VR, Meta Quest 2, and SteamVR, though a release date has yet to be determined.

Tunic

Andrew Shouldice and Finji’s TUNIC lets players explore a world rife with lost legends, ancient powers, and ferocious monsters. Sound design has been done by Power Up Audio (Celeste), while the soundtrack is being handled by Lifeformed (Dustforce).

The game will come out on March 16, 2022.

CrossfireX

Smilegate Entertainment’s CrossfireX will feature two single-player campaign Operations being developed by Remedy Entertainment (Alan Wake).

GTFO

10 Chambers’ four-player cooperative multiplayer horror shooter GTFO has officially launched on Steam.

Tchia

Inspired by New Caledonia, Awaceb’s Tchia will feature hidden treasures, risky ascents and acrobatic jumps. The game will come out for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC in Spring 2022.
